In order to provide equal educational opportunities for all children from the start, day-care centers that have a high proportion of families with difficult starting conditions in their area receive additional funding. Since the 2014/2015 kindergarten year, these plusKITAs have received at least 25,000 euros per calendar year. There are currently around 1,700 plusKITAs in North Rhine-Westphalia. We at the St. Johannes kindergarten can count ourselves lucky to be part of PlusKITA and to make a contribution to supporting families with difficult starting conditions.

A special focus of the PlusKita instrument is the promotion of language education and support. The aim is to focus on the children's background, to strengthen educational opportunities and to reduce existing disadvantages.

The participation of all families in our facility is a major goal, which we break down and address on various levels. In daily contact, we are language role models for the children entrusted to us and promote language development. We organize parents' evenings on specific topics, hold intercultural festivals and have a permanent contact person to accompany families on visits to the authorities.

We offer four different care times. The parents make a binding decision before the kindergarten year for a childcare period. 

25 hours: Monday to Friday from 07:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

35-hour block: Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

35 hours divided: Monday to Thursday from 07:00 to 12:15 and from 14:00 to 16:15 and on Friday from 7:00 to 12:00

45 hours: Monday to Thursday from 07:00 to 16:15 and Friday from 07:00 to 15:00
