"Participation is not about 'leaving children in power' or giving children 'command'. Participation is about sharing decisions that affect one's life and the life of the community, and finding common solutions to find problems. Children are not more creative, more democratic or more open than adults, they are just different and for this reason bring other, new aspects and perspectives into the decision-making processes.”
Richard Schröder - "Children talk"
Our practice of pedagogy relies on a high degree of participation by the children. The children entrusted to us should learn to perceive and express their own ideas, wishes and needs. They learn to represent their opinions and to hear and accept other opinions and points of view in the discussion.
The influence of the children can concern, for example, the common rules, the daily program to be determined or the room design.
This guarantees education to become self-confident and communicative personalities, who can weigh arguments and represent their own opinions, even in kindergarten.
In the case of project-related participation, the children deal with a clearly defined topic within a reasonable time frame.
The impetus for working on the topic can come from the children or from the adults. Topics treated in a project-like manner, in which the children can have a say, are, for example, the preparation of an excursion, the redesign and use of a room or the establishment of binding agreements, etc.
Open forms of participation are storytelling and morning circles, as well as children's meetings. Here the children can contribute their concerns, discuss them and thus actively influence everyday kindergarten life.
